Does ClickUp Work with Google Workspace? Gmail, Drive and Calendar for Gulf Teams
What ClickUp's Google integrations actually do — Gmail Connected Search and the Chrome extension, Google Drive attachments, previews and Automations, two-way Calendar in Planner and task sync — and how teams in the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait should set them up.
Quick answer
Yes. ClickUp connects to Google Workspace through three separate integrations: Gmail (searching your inbox from ClickUp and turning emails into tasks via the Chrome extension), Google Drive (attachments, live previews, Connected Search and Automations) and Google Calendar (two-way sync in Planner, task-to-calendar sync and AI Notetaker). Each is connected and governed separately.
Walk into a Dubai agency, a Doha start-up incubated in a tech park, or a Kuwaiti family business launching a new venture, and there is a good chance the team lives in Gmail, Google Drive and Google Calendar. Work then splinters: the brief is in a Drive folder, the client approval is buried in an email thread, the deadline exists only as a calendar block, and the task list sits somewhere else entirely.
Think of a well-run hotel. Every guest has a key card that opens their own room, and the lobby, pool and meeting rooms are open to everyone staying there. ClickUp's Google integrations work the same way: a personal connection is your room key — only you see your inbox and private files — while a Workspace connection opens the shared spaces that your organisation has already made public internally. Getting that distinction right is most of the setup.
This guide explains what each integration does, based on ClickUp's help documentation in October 2026, and how we sequence them for teams in the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait. If your organisation runs on Microsoft instead, our companion guide on ClickUp and Microsoft 365 covers Teams, Outlook and OneDrive.
Three integrations, not one switch
There is no single "connect Google Workspace" button. Gmail, Google Drive and Google Calendar are separate apps in ClickUp's App Center, each with its own connection, permissions and limits. That is good news for IT: you can approve Calendar for everyone in week one and review Drive's Workspace-level search later, rather than taking an all-or-nothing decision.
ClickUp publishes the OAuth scopes for its Google integrations, so your security team can see exactly what is requested before anyone clicks Connect. For Gmail, for example, the documented scopes are read-only access for search plus confirmation of which address is linked. We recommend sharing that table with whoever approves third-party apps in your Google Admin console before rollout, not after.
Gmail: from inbox to task
Gmail connects in two complementary ways. The first is Personal Connected Search: once you link your account, you can search your inbox from inside ClickUp, covering a rolling window of the most recent 365 days. Nobody else in the Workspace can search your mail through this connection, and guests cannot use Connected Search at all. From the AI Command Bar you can also open Gmail directly, and Brain and Super Agents can use Gmail tools once you allow them to.
The second is the ClickUp Chrome extension. Open an email in Gmail, click the ClickUp logo, and either attach the message to an existing task or create a new task with the email attached. By default the subject becomes the task name, attachments from the email are uploaded to the task, and the email itself appears as a rich attachment you can preview or open back in Gmail. For a procurement officer in Abu Dhabi forwarding a supplier quotation, or an account manager in Doha receiving a client's change request, this is the single most valuable habit: the request becomes work with an owner and a date, instead of an unread flag.
One practical note: the extension runs only in Google Chrome. If part of your team uses another browser, plan for that in training.
Google Drive: files where the work happens
Google Drive offers both connection types. A personal connection lets each user attach Drive files to tasks and comments, create a new Google Doc, Sheet or Slide straight from a task's Attachments section, and search their own public and private files with Personal Connected Search. Typing /em gdrive in a comment is the quickest way to attach a file.
A Workspace connection, enabled by an owner or admin, gives every member Connected Search across Drive — but only for files already shared with everyone in your organisation, such as shared drives or files set so anyone in the company can view. Files private to one person, or shared only with specific people or groups, never appear. This is the lobby, not the guest rooms, and it is why Workspace Connected Search is usually safe to switch on once your Drive sharing hygiene is reasonable.
Pasting a Drive link into a task description, comment, Doc or Chat message gives you a choice of inline mention, live preview or plain URL. Previews show the file type, size and last edit, and embeds of Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, images and videos can be opened and edited in place. Only members who have connected their own Drive see preview content, so Drive permissions still apply.
Drive Automations: let the folders build themselves
ClickUp offers Google Drive Automation Triggers — New File Created and New Folder Created — and Actions — Create Folder and Create Document — with dynamic ClickUp fields allowed in names and content. They require a personal Drive connection and the Automations ClickApp, and availability and usage vary by plan, so confirm in your own Workspace.
The pattern we deploy most often in the Gulf is client or project onboarding: when a task moves to Won in a sales List, ClickUp creates a Drive folder named with the client and project code, then a kickoff document inside it. A second pattern runs the other way: when a new file lands in a shared contracts folder, a task is created for legal review. Both replace a step that someone forgets at least once a month.
Google Calendar: one honest view of time
Google Calendar supports personal connections only, and nobody else can see your calendar through it. Once connected, your events appear in ClickUp's Planner with two-way sync, so you can see, create and join meetings without switching apps; Google Calendar events can also be shown in any Calendar view. The AI Command Bar shows today's schedule, AI Notetaker can take notes on Google Calendar meetings, and the integration can list rooms and resource calendars from your Google Workspace domain for booking.
Separately, you can sync tasks from a Space, Folder or List into a Google Calendar. The documented behaviour is worth knowing before you promise anything to managers:
- Create a new, dedicated Google Calendar for the sync — tasks arrive as busy events, and you cannot sync to a shared calendar.
- Only tasks with a start or due date sync; tasks without a date, or with a due date in the past, do not.
- A task with only a due date appears starting one hour before it; Google Calendar shows tasks as 30-minute blocks regardless of real length.
- Recurring tasks show only the current instance, and events created in Google Calendar do not create ClickUp tasks.
The Gulf angle: weekends, languages and mixed estates
Three local realities shape the setup. First, the workweek: a group with a Monday–Friday office in Dubai and Sunday–Thursday teams in Kuwait City will see synced deadlines land on someone's weekend unless the ClickUp work schedule and each team's calendar habits are aligned before the sync goes live.
Second, language. Arabic file names and email subjects carry into ClickUp as they are, so agree on a bilingual naming convention for Drive folders created by Automations — for example "ACME-2026 · أكمي" — so search works for both English and Arabic speakers.
Third, mixed estates. Many Gulf groups run Google Workspace in a young subsidiary and Microsoft 365 at headquarters. ClickUp can hold both at once, because integrations are connected per user and per Workspace; the rule we apply is one system of record per file type, so a contract never exists in two drives at the same time.
A four-week rollout sequence
This is the order that minimises friction for IT and maximises early wins for users:
- Week 1 — Review the published OAuth scopes with IT and allow ClickUp in your Google Admin console; connect Google Calendar for everyone.
- Week 2 — Install the Chrome extension for client-facing and procurement teams and train the email-to-task habit.
- Week 3 — Connect Google Drive personally, then enable the Workspace connection once shared-drive permissions are tidy.
- Week 4 — Add one or two Drive Automations for onboarding or contract intake, and measure how many requests now start as tasks.
